Dr. Richard Bajura was honored recently by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) in Washington, D.C., for his “seminal contributions” to the discipline of fluids engineering.

Bajura was part of a 90th anniversary awards ceremony for fluids engineering that celebrated a number of distinguished engineers and scientists who have contributed significantly to the discipline and the development of the ASME Fluids Engineering Division. The honorees were awarded specially designed medallions and certificates. Recipients included past chairs of the division, Freeman Scholars, and recipients of the Henry R. Worthington Medal.

Bajura has served the society with distinction and is a previous recipient of the Centennial Award for organizing ASME’s 100th anniversary program. He has received the Dedicated Service Award from the Fluids Engineering Division. Bajura is also a past vice president for basic engineering. His current service to the organization is focused on the Energy Public Policy Task Force activities. He has been a member of the organization since 1960.

Bajura is the director of the National Research Center for Coal and Energy at West Virginia University. He has been a faculty member in the Benjamin M. Statler College of Engineering and Mineral Resources since 1969. He resides in Morgantown, W.Va., with his wife Rita Bajura.
