Three 2015-2016 Claude Worthington Benedum Distinguished Scholars will present highlights of their award-winning research in individual lectures beginning next week. All members of the campus and local community are invited to attend both the lectures and the receptions that follow each one.

The faculty members named Benedum Distinguished Scholars for 2015-2016 were announced last spring. They are:

• Cheryl Ball, English
• JoNell Strough, Psychology
• Jingxin Wang, Forestry and Wood Science

The awards can be given in four categories: behavioral and social sciences, biosciences and health sciences, humanities and the arts, and physical sciences and technology. (No recipient was identified in the physical sciences and technology category for the 2015-2016 cycle.)

Award winners each receive $5000 in professional development funds and the opportunity to share their research with the campus community in a lecture, both made possible by the Office of the Provost and an endowment from the Claude Worthington Benedum Foundation. This fall, the lecture schedule will be as follows:

Jinxin Wang will speak on “Biomass to High Value-Added Bio-products”
Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. in the Shenandoah Room of the WVU Mountainlair

JoNelle Strough will speak on “What’s Good about Getting Old? Aging and Decision Making”
Oct. 17 at 4 p.m. in Room 126 of Ming Hsieh Hall (downtown campus)

Cheryl Ball will speak on “Building Research Infrastructure through Open-Access Publishing”
Nov. 3 at 4 p.m. in the Milano Reading Room of the WVU Wise Library
